The diagnosis is in. He has hypertension, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, and stenosis in the carotid arteries. This calls for a combination of surgical procedures followed by a battery of medications and MAJOR changes in diet and lifestyle. Assuming he survives the first, the last one will be most difficult to navigate. But if he does, projections indicate his life could be extended by 15 years. So, if he’s good to go for it we’re up to help as much as we can!
My older daughter and I had one of our LONG phone calls today. We covered a lot of ground, as we usually do when we talk. We came away from it reaffirming that we loved, cared about, and respected one another despite contrasting worldviews through which we interpret shared life experiences and understand what’s going on around us. It’s quite rewarding to reach the point where we can be different and both be right.
