The words and letters through which articulate speech is expressed are the symbols which translate sounds into the mental concepts through which the human mind is destined to acquire an understanding of reality. The journey from an awareness of sounds to the understanding of the dictionary definitions of words is a miraculous spiritual one which is begun in childhood as the first step toward advancing from material consciousness to human comprehension. But spiritual evolution extends that journey far beyond a mere grasp of definitions to a gradual awakening to the spirit and Truth that our Creator is leading us to share and understand. Thus, revelation by revelation, the potency of articulate speech had been more fully unveiled, and human words have been empowered to convey more dynamically the significance of the words of God as uttered by His Mouthpiece, age by age.

What could be more precious, then, or more tuned to our desperate need to convert our satanic power into heavenly strength, than the Revelations of Bahá’u’lláh as a whole, or than Gleanings form the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh, so painstakingly and lovingly offered us by the beloved Guardian of His Faith?

Word by word, thought by thought, in these Writings we are being introduced to the fresh spiritual power of our speech. And as is true of all symbols of reality, each word reveals more meaning as it is presented in a new light or context. How excellent it is, then, to group together texts where each precious word uttered by Bahá’u’lláh has been used! Yes, it adds up to three or four times the length of the original material. But who can estimate the increase of understanding or Evident Light that may accrue from the use of this concordance? 1
